Although sometimes I almost wish I would...:) Life has been absolutely crazy these last few months! I always thought I was organized before, but I've had to become ridiculously organized and set my priorities straight. Trying to get my brain to remember how to do schoolwork hasn't been a picnic, but it has been going pretty well. Thank heavens I made it through my first semester! And I'm proud to say that I acutally did quite well, thanks in no small part to my fabulous husband and children for helping me through. (There's nothing like a hug from your children or an encouraging word from your husband to boost your confindence levels.:) I actually made it through college level algebra and health. Now onto biology...:)
Everything is pretty fantastic, all things considered. Aside from some minor viruses, everyone is healthy and strong, and the kids are as busy as ever. Savannah started taking piano lessons and is doing a fabulous job! It's so much fun for me to watch her try and remember what her teacher said and how she is suppossed to do things. She even gets up at 6:30 every morning in order to read her scriptures and get her practicing in before school! (That's my girl!:) Isaiah has been loving baseball again this year, and is extra excited because his dad is his coach. (Jason does a great job, by the way.) He has so much energy that running after the ball just comes naturally to him. His swing is getting more power behind it too.:) Mary has been absolutely loving learning to read, and she graduates from preschool this week! How crazy is that? When did my kids get so grown up? (Maybe it has something to do with their mom reaching her 30s...:)
Jason's work has been going well, too. I admire that man so much. I don't know that I could handle working outside every day, no matter what the weather holds for you. Yet he does it without complaint. We're now reaching the part of the year where he gets LOTS of sun, but that doesn't even faze him. (It just creates an interesting tan line.:) And through it all, he still finds the time and energy to support his wife with her schooling and spend time with each of the kids. He's the best ever! He also decided to surprise me this year and combine my birthday and Mother's Day gifts by taking me to Anniversary Inn in Salt Lake in a couple of weeks. I am ridiculously excited!!!!
Here's hoping the coming months are every bit as much crazy fun!Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-67032714690882847842012-01-25T19:21:00.000-07:002012-01-25T19:21:01.955-07:00Savannah's Birthday and Baptism

I can't believe my sweet little girl is 8! Honeslty, where does the time go? But then again, she really is quite grown up. She's always checking on me to make sure my legs are feeling okay, and she's the first one to jump up and help, even before I ask. The other day I was making spaghetti and meatballs for when Jason's brother Taz came home, and asked her if she wanted to learn how to roll the meatballs. Now remember, we had about 200 or so to make. I was all set to show her and then let her do a few. I figured she'd loose interest after awhile. Boy, was I wrong. She loved it and helped me roll the entire batch. She even came back up later to see if there were anymore to do.:) I'm always so proud of her, but never more so than when she made the decision to be baptized. It wasn't even a question for her. She's been excited about it for months, and even made sure to invite her great-grandpa who's a non-member. When the bishop asked her why she wanted to be baptized, she immediately said, "So I can be like Jesus." Did I mention how proud I am of her?:)
So, rather than post a super-long list of all the crazy stuff we've been up to lately, I thought I'd just add a few highlights from each month. (Sorry if this sort-of sounds like a holiday letter.:) Here goes:
July
Isaiah turned 6--I can't believe how big this kid is! Plus, he has the energy of about 3 6-year-olds. I hope he keeps that zest for life later, but right now, sometimes I wish he'd just calm down for 2 seconds! (Such is the life of a mom.) He was really excited this year because we went to Draper Days on his birthday, which means he had his very own fireworks! How cool is that? (I have pictures of this, but I'm not exactly sure where the CD is at the moment. I'll post them later if I find it.:)
Swimming lessons--My kids are seriously little fish. I've never seen anybody who loves the water so much. Normally teachers will have to talk kids into putting their heads under the water, but with my kids, they have to be reminded to stay ABOVE water. Savannah was even brave enough to go off the high dive, which is something her mom still gets nervous about. Sometimes I wonder if they have gills...:)

August
Missing a husband--For a lot of the month, Jason was out of town on work, either in Fillmore or somewhere in South Dakota. (I know. What fabulous locations.:) I had to get creative to figure out stuff for the kids to do during summer break that didn't involve spending money, but we sure had fun. We even managed to finish a few projects around the house! All the same, everyone was sure glad when Daddy came home!
Fun at Lagoon and the cabin--One of the best things about summer for me is that we all go to Lagoon together as a family. I didn't get to go a lot as a kid, and I'm so glad that we've made it a yearly tradition. It always makes for such great memories. Plus, this year we went up to the family cabin in Lava Hot Springs right after and relaxed for a few days. Now that's my kind of vacation!

September
School starts again!--You mean I don't have to entertain my kids all day every day anymore? That's fantastic! Why didn't somebody think of that sooner?:)
Singing in a FABULOUS choir--I was very fortunate to be asked to sing in the choir for the Relief Sociey session of General Conference. What an amazing experience! The music was beautiful, and the spirituality of the practices and performance was something I'll never forget. I feel so blessed to have been a part of something so spectacular. (Even if we did spend a LONG time down on Temple Square the day of the broadcast.:) And for those of you who've been asking, yes, that was me in the close-up on camera. (Actually, the camera was pretty much right in my face. Let me tell you, it was really difficult to pretend it wasn't there.:)
Isaac leaving on his mission--Jason ended up having two brothers as missionaries at the same time! His youngest brother, Isaac, left in September to the Seattle Washington mission. He's doing a fantastic job, and I hope he's not getting too soggy in all that rain...

October
Happy Halloween--I love that my kids still like to pick cute costumes out as oppossed to the scary ones. It's so much more fun! This year we had a Mario and Luigi, as well as Alice and 2 Mad Hatters (one old movie and one new). The best part by far though was that Jason grew out his hair just so he could be a fantasic Johnny Depp Mad Hatter for Savannah's Alice. He looked absolutely amazing. (He even did his makeup by himself. I had no idea I married such a talented man.:)
We have current pictures of the kids thanks to school, but it dawned on me that in our last family picture Mary was 1. (Oops.:) They turned out wonderfully, thanks to Toni being aware that you must take MANY pictures in every pose in order to get ones where everyone is actually looking at the camera and smiling at the same time. Remembering gratitude--We had a small medical scare thanks in part to my fabulous blood clotting genes. I had gone of my medication for a couple of days in order to have an endoscopy (lucky me) and my legs were quite sore for a couple of weeks after. I went to have an ultrasound and discovered what looked like more clots. I thought, "Oh, great. I seriously have to do this again? Really?" But during the procedure, the doctor let me know that it was actually more scar tissue from when they treated me a couple of times over the summer. I was sore, but I'd be okay, and I got to go home. The neat thing was that it was almost exactly a year after I first was fighting the clots, and right before Thanksgiving. It was as if Heavenly Father was saying, "You remember what you learned about gratitude last year? Yeah, don't forget that." It was most definately a very good reminder.
Programs--Savannah's school program was for Halloween, Isaiah's was for Christmas. Remember what I said about being able to hear my kids no matter what? That's especially true for Isaiah. He has such a love for music, and can't wait to sing it at the top of his lungs. (Mary's that way too.) He did such a fantastic job. Mary had her preschool program and a dance showcase as well, and I just had to smile at how excited she was to sing, and more especially to dance. She would focus long enough to do the steps her teacher asked, but she would jump up and down between each section. Super cute!:) She did a really good job, too.

Christmas--Christmas was awesome, fantastic, and completely crazy. We have tons of family to visit anyway, but adding in the concept of it being on Sunday and working around everyone's meetings, trying to plan to be at Jason's parents' house when his missionary brothers called, and my brother Tony and his wife having a new baby 2 days before (yay for Braden!:), things were just nuts. It was all enjoyable, but I did feel bad for my kids. About halfway through the day, Mary asked if we could go home yet so she could play with her new toys. Too bad we still had 2 more places to go that day...:) I was really proud of my kids this year too. Normally their gifts to each other consist of whatever they think would be okay at Wal-Mart. But this year, each of them really thought about things the others had said they wanted and got those instead. Let me tell you, it is such a fantastic feeling as a parent to see the smiles not only from the one receiving the gift, but from the one giving it as well when they know they really picked something the other would want. And they all even waited until after church to open their presents, since our meeting was at 9:00. The true meaning of Christmas was most definately in focus this year, despite all the craziness, and I LOVED IT!
Taz's homecoming--The missionaries are back down to one! Jason's brother Taz returned from Monterey, Mexico and is just as awesome as ever. I would say even more so than when he left. (Missions tend to do that.:) We're all super excited he's home, but I don't think anyone is more so than my husband. I've never seen him that happy before, and I've seen him at some pretty happy times. I can only imagine how it will be when Isaac comes home as well.
Going back to school--So I decided to be nuts and go back to college. (As if I don't already have enough to do.) I will eventually be persuing a degree in music education, but at the moment, I'm finishing some general classes online that never got finished at the Y. It's going pretty well, but it's really interesting to try and figure out college-level math when I haven't had to think that way in about a decade. Well, what happens if things don't calm down?:) I think that's been the story for the Greenwoods the past few months. At first I thought summer would be relaxing. But then my husband was working out of town for most of it and I had to think of stuff for the kids to do all day so they didn't notice. Then I thought things would be calmer when the kids went back to school. But I forgot about all the homework and projects and me becoming the family taxi driver. Then I figured that the holidays would be busy, but at least lots of fun. You'd think I'd remember how crazy everything was last year...Oh, well. At least I've updated the blog enough so that it doesn't look like it's the middle of summer anymore. Maybe someday soon I'll get around to doing something like posting pictures.:)Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-5606500228378820642011-06-28T10:20:00.001-06:002011-06-28T10:21:16.892-06:00More Random Pictures Here's a few more random shots that didn't make it in anywhere, but I had to share.:)
(They did a fantastic job, by the way.) In the race packet there were wrist-bands for all the activities at Thanksgiving Point, so we decided to go make a day out of it. I mean, how often do you get to do that sort of thing for free? What a fabulous time we had! My kids couldn't believe we got to do Farm Country and the Dinosaur Museum in the same day. (Usually it's one or the other due to cost.) I particularly enjoyed the fact that Jason got to come with us this time. He's usually working when we go, but this time it was Saturday. Sometimes it's hard for me to keep up! Isaiah just finished baseball season, and he totally loved it! He was so excited that he got to be in coach pitch this year. He did a great job, too. The funny thing was about halfway through the season he went from hitting almost every pitch to missing a lot. It took us a while to figure out that his swing speed had gotten a lot faster, and so his timing was all messed up. But, he practiced hard and before long he was back to getting hits, this time with a lot more distance due to the power and speed in his swing. It was awesome to see his face light up when he'd connect and hit it far. Way to go, buddy!
She's doing such a fantastic job learning how to tumble and dance around. She loves swinging over the bars especially. There was even a little awards ceremony at the end, and all the students took turns standing at the top of the podium. Good practice, right?:)
We were planning on going last fall, but my lovely health issues wouldn't allow that. Thankfully, we were able to go finally, and what a blast we had. We decided to drive to save the money, but in retrospect I think we'll fly next time. (My kids did FANTASTIC in the car. It was more their mom who had to keep stopping to exercise my legs. We got really good at cleaning up after being car-sick, too.:) We stopped overnight in Vegas and had fun at Circus Circus, then left the next morning in order to get to our hotel in Aneheim by around lunchtime. We hit the beach that first day, although I think the locals thought we were nuts. To us, 60 degrees was very warm since it was snowing back home, but they were all bundled up in sweatshirts and long pants, if they were even on the beach at all. We did get a few of them smiling, though.
Sure, a few of the rides were closed, but the longest we ever waited in line was 30 minutes, and that was for Space Mountain and Peter Pan. (The normal wait was about 15 or less. Awesome!) I absolutely loved watching my kids react to everything. They were so excited, they could barely stand it! There's just something about the magic of that place for kids, and even their parents.:)
Because of that, we didn't just go to the cheapest places, and as a result had some FABULOUS food. (Although, most of the food at Disneyland is fabulous.) My favorite was Cafe Orleans, just outside Pirates of the Carribean. They have the most amazing parmesean-coated french fries, with a tasty remoulade sauce for dipping. We loved them so much, I searched the internet for days when we got back until I found the basic recipie, and then played with it in the kitchen until they were replicated. SO yummy!
We also hit Sea World while we were at it. It was a little strange because almost nobody was there, but it was also fun to have everything more to ourselves. We got great seating for all the shows, and walking between the arenas was a lot more pleasant.
I had to go grocery shopping in the rain and, of course, all the food packaging got pretty wet, as well as Mary and I. It was freezing cold, and so we decided to go to this little coffee shop nearby called Coffee Creations and get some hot chocolate. I'd been there before, but usually during the summer to get frozen hot chocolate, which is completely fabulous. Since I had no idea what to get, the cashier suggested something called the "Sinful Mormon." (Only in Utah, right?:) It's a mix of Dutch chocolate, white chocolate, carmel, and English toffee. He recently completed another half marathon, this time in St. George. I was really impressed because almost his entire family ran this year as well, and every single one of them finished! Wahoo! Jason totally amazed me as well. He finished in 1:34, and it was like he'd never even been running. He had so much energy and was entirely too happy for someone who just ran 13 miles. (Thanks a bunch to Ann for helping me get the whole camera mess straightened out!:) We had a fabulous holiday, and surprisingly it was much more relaxed than normal. We have lots of family close by, so Christmas day is usually spent running from place to place. Somehow it all worked out this year that things were much more mellow. (I guess it helps when great-grandparents show up at grandparents houses.) We were able to spend a fabulous morning at home, head to Jason's parents to say hello and talk with his missionary brother over the phone, and then headed to my parents. The funniest part for me was when we were heading back home again we realized it was dinner time. Nobody felt like preparing anything, (after all, it was Christmas) so we ended up getting Panda Express. I'll never forget how long the line was, but it ended up being a lot of fun. (There aren't many restaurants open on Christmas Day.:) We ended our great day by hanging out at Jason's sisters with many different Wii games. So fun!
I tried for almost an hour last night to make it work, eventually even sticking a safety pin in the hole where the switch was to push down the activator. The only problem with that is that if it moves AT ALL, the uploading software won't detect the camera anymore. I don't know about you, but there is no way I can hold THAT still. At least, not while I have to type at the same time. What am I, a statue? At any rate, I'm going to have to figure out a different way of updating photos on my computer. (And I thought having a digital camera was going to make my life easier...:) Does anybody know a good camera repair man?:)Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-68574996163718421072011-02-07T09:48:00.000-07:002011-02-07T09:48:06.474-07:00I am such a slacker...You know, I was looking at my posts the other day, and I realized that I haven't even put up Christmas pictures or Savannah's birthday yet, and they were a month and a half ago! I guess I need to pay more attention... There will be pictures coming soon, I promise!:)Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-33841508099171660622010-12-23T14:58:00.000-07:002010-12-23T14:58:02.882-07:00My Own Christmas Miracle Last week I had some additional swelling in my left leg, so I had another ultrasound to see what the cause was. Realize that although it was a little tender, the pain and swelling were nothing like last time. So I was very surprised to hear the radioligist tell me that blood clots had returned in both of my legs. My left leg was worse than my right, hence the small amount of pain and swelling. Of course I was frustrated as I thought I was done with all of this stuff, and it was very close to Christmas. But, Heavenly Father gave me the faith and strength to know that I could go through another hospital stay and time away from my family if that's what needed to be done. The doctor told me to go home and get things in order so I could return the next morning prepared to be in the hospital for a few days at least, possibly up to a week.
Now, last time this happened, I felt really unprepared. I mean, I went from being in pain and going to the doctor to being admitted in ICU within a few hours. My husband and I spent lots of time in the waiting room at the hospital making tear-filled phone calls. This time was different. The Spirit kept reassuring me that everything would be okay. I just had to trust in the Lord. It was also quite nice that I got to go home and prepare my children for what would be taking place over the coming days. They trusted that things were going to be all right and that I could call them from the hospital, and I would be coming home soon. I was able to pack a bag to prepare for a long hospital stay, and I was even able to do my hair and makeup before going in the next morning. (Jason was teasing me for even worrying about that, but honestly, I wasn't sure when I'd be able to again.:)
I went through the same blood work and testing that was set up before the procedure, and was taken to the operating room. I was expecting to see my husband in my room in ICU soon, but Heavenly Father had something else in mind. I was just getting sleepy from the anasthetic when my doctor tapped my on the shoulder. He had a puzzled expression and said, "Um, we can't do the procedure. We don't need to." I was sure the medicine had me hearing things, but he continued to explain. Apparently, the clots in my legs were "old", meaning they had been there for over a month. (That means they would have had to develop just after the others disappeared.) The veins they were in had completely closed themselves off from the rest of my body, and new veins had been created to allow blood flow. My body registered the fact that there was a block to the circulation in my legs, and it had been taken care of. There was no chance of the clot breaking off and becoming a life threatening thing because the veins they were contained in are shut off from everything else. The doctor explained that, eventually, the veins will die off and the blood thinners I'm taking will dissolve the clots. His next words shocked me even more. When I asked what that meant for my hospital stay he said, "You can go home."
What an amazing boost of faith this has been for me. Heavenly Father was trying me to see if I was willing to accept what he had in store for me, if I would match my will to His. And when I was able to, He eliminated the problem all together. I was witness to my own miracle for the second time in just a month or so. John 3:16 says,"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This Christmas season, this scripture takes on new meaning for me. I am so very blessed to be able to be with my family for Christmas, and I will forever be grateful to my Father in Heaven for this great gift, that I may be able to truly celebrate the greatest gift of all, the life of our Savior. Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-82572377508266044192010-12-08T16:01:00.000-07:002010-12-08T16:01:44.956-07:00A Promise Kept A while ago I posted a picture of Savannah's extra-poofy hair. (See January 2010.) I made a promise then that I would post a picture of what it looked like before I took it out, if I ever did that to her hair again. Well, here are the pictures:
(It takes FOREVER to put in.) Hopefully I'll get the determination up to do it again sometime soon...:)Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-34268815155837526052010-12-07T11:52:00.000-07:002010-12-07T11:52:50.500-07:00My Sweet Savannah
I found another picture on my memory card that I can't believe never made it to the blog. We recently spent some time up in Idaho at a family cabin, which we do frequently. The kids are constantly running and playing, and can quite easily get worn out. So, a few trips ago, when everyone decided to calm down for a minute and watch a movie, I was all for it. I guess Savannah was a little more tired than the others, because here's what happened:

She apparently found a comfy spot in between the couch and side table and promptly fell asleep. (I love how her position looks like she's having a great time watching the movie, except for the fact that her eyes are closed.:)

What a cutie! She stayed like that for quite a while, too. She only woke up when her arms finally gave out and her head bobbed up and down. And at first she didn't even realize she'd been asleep. I guess she was more worn out than she thought...:)
Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4818232361840101923.post-43852260111057504222010-12-07T11:40:00.000-07:002010-12-07T11:40:24.624-07:00Just a Quick Update Hello there! I just wanted to post a quick update about how everything is going. I'm recovering quite well, thanks in huge part to all of the prayers offered on my behalf. (Thank you all so much.) The pain in my legs is mostly gone, although I still have to be careful not to overdo it. (That can get kind-of complicated with three kids.:) I'm working closely with my doctor to regulate the blood thinner I'm on, and it all seems to be going well. It's a little screwy trying to get it all figured out, but I'm very grateful to have a doctor that redily helps me understand what's going on.
The funniest part about the whole thing is that I've had to stop wearing heels, at least for a little while. I've always loved them and thought my foot wear would never change. Boy, was I wrong on that one. (For those of you who don't know, I have an enormous collection of them just sitting in my closet until my legs can support themselves again. As my husband says, I'm such a girl for even worrying about something like that. Thanks, honey.:)
Thanks once again to all of you for your thoughts and prayers and here's to continuing getting better. I love you all! Kristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05125733034859717808noreply@blogger.com0
